Brooke Telecom PC Protection

IMPORTANT! Before proceeding, ensure that you have received your subscription key via email. If you have not already done this process, return to the main PC Protection page and fill out your BrookeTel username/password along with the other required fields and then hit subscribe. An email will be sent to your primary BrookeTel email address with the subscription key needed to activate the program.

Prior to installation, uninstall any of the following programs that currently reside on your computer:

-Any Anti-virus Software (Norton, AVG, McAfee)
-Any Firewall software
-AdAware

1) Download the setup file from the link in the verification email you received.
Please Note: If you are a Dial-Up user, it is recommended that you obtain a Setup Disc from BrookeTel instead of downloading the software online.

2) Save the file to a convenient location (eg/Desktop)
3) Double Click on this icon to begin the install process.

4) You will be prompted for your choice of language-
select English and hit Next.



5. You should see the program unpacking itself.
Click Next when finished.



6. A prompt will appear with the License Terms-
Select the box that indicates "I accept the agreement"
upon reading it and then hit Next.



7. You will be prompted for an install directory.
Leave the directory path as is and click Next.



8. A "Preparing to Install" dialogue should progress-
Click Next when finished.



9. You will be prompted to enter your subscription number
(This number would have been emailed to you when you signed up for BrookeTel PC Protection). You can cut and paste this number directly into the box to avoid typing in all the characters. Once it is entered, click Next. The installation will connect and verify that the number is valid.



10. The installation will go through downloading all the available updates. This process can take some time (if you are on dial-up, up to 5 hours). Please allow all of the updates to install before continuing.



11. You will be prompted to create a password. Please ensure this password is something only known to the people who will be "administrators" of the account. Click Next once you have entered and confirmed your password.



12. The installation will progress with a status bar. Click Next when finished.



13. The installation is complete. You should be prompted to restart your computer. Choose Restart Now.



14. Upon restarting your computer, you will be greeted with a Welcome screen. Click Next at this screen.



15. Step 1 is the Application Control screen. You can select whether or not you would like to be notified when applications attempt to connect to the Internet. When this option is enabled, you can either Allow or Deny an application the ability to connect to the Internet. This can be useful in monitoring for malware within commonly used programs. Once you have select a choice, press Next to continue.



16. Step 2 will allow you to select your default web browser. For most people this will be Internet Explorer. If it is not, select the appropriate browser from the drop down list and click Next.



17. Step 3 will ask you about your default E-mail client. Most users will select Outlook Express-if this is not your default e-mail client, select an option from the drop down list and click Next.



18. If you select Outlook Express in 17, Step 4 should be skipped for you. If you did not, you may specify a number of different options in your Spam Control. When finished, click Next.

19. Step 5 will ask you which tasks you would like to perform after the Start-Up Wizard is completed. You can select from the following and then click Next when finished:

• Perform Full Computer Check-performs a full scan of your computer for viruses and spyware. This is recommended and will automatically clean/remove any type of harmful files residing on your computer.
• Enable a Weekly Virus Scan-This is also recommended and will run once a week to check your computer's condition in relation to viruses and spyware.
• Show Main User Interface-This will open the main interface or "control centre" for you and allow you to customize your BrookeTel PC Protection.



20. You have completed the Start-Up Wizard. Click Finish to accept your settings.



21. If you specified to scan your computer in 19, then you will see a scanning progression. First however, you will be prompted to enter your password that you created in Step 11. You may wish to check the "Remember password for this session" box in order to avoid having to re-enter your password numerous times. Once entered, the scanning process may take a substantial amount of time depending on the size of your hard drive. If it detects any type of malware or virus, it will identify and ask you to take an appropriate action (Delete).



22. Upon completion, you will see the Main User Interface. From here, you can control the different levels of BrookeTel PC Protection. You are finished!

1) Load the BrookeTel Internet Setup Disc in your CD-Rom tray.
2) The Disc should automatically display the menu choices.
3) Select "PC Protection "
4) Refer to step 4 of the "How to Setup from Online Download" section to the left and follow from there.
